Lookbook: The Vintage Trench

This is why I love eBay...I just won a gorgeous vintage Etienne Aignier trench coat for like $40.  Here, a few looks of chic strangers in trenches. They look so effortlessly cool...

Now, I just have to find something to wear with it.  This is a big deal, too folks.  I've never owned a trench coat before.  Odd, you say?  Well, yes.  But up until my eBay habit got the best of me I was in Old Navy puffers, college sweatshirt hoodies and various blazers, peacoats, etc.  But with a new classic piece I must add a few new goodies to my wardrobe.  Which means I have to go shopping again; I hate when that happens!

Here is my own spin on dressing up the classic trench coat:

Home/Studio Tour: Lazaro Rosa-Violan

Featured today is a tour of the home studio, Contemporain Studio, of Lazaro Rosa-Violan.  Based in Barcelona, Rosa- Violan describes himself as an urban archiologist and that's easy to see from the panoply of pieces, sculptures, furniture and artworks throughout his studio.

He's been designing interiors for a little more than 20 years, but only recently opened his enviable home studio in 2003.  With the help of eight staff, the Contemporain Studio has designed more than 40 interiors, mostly throughout Spain, including hotels, restaurants and shops.

I mean...look, this studio is so fabulous that it was featured in the January/February 2011 issue of Vogue Living Australia.

I love how he has mixed 'primitive' art pieces like, this oblong wooden sculpture with the clean, modern lines of that coffee table, the white leather chairs.  And those two chinoiserie tables look lovely within the vicinity of not one, but two, leather chesterfield sofas and bright, white doric columns.   With so many pieces of art places throughout this home/studio, you'd think it belonged to a collector of sorts...

I'm not sure what to think of that big, green apple, but it works here.

When I grow up, I would love an office exactly like this, complete with a step ladder...

I love how the well the softly lit hallway works so well to complement a glamorous, bright seating area...

A giant four-panelled Japanese painting is the centerpiece here.  I am loving that mid-century modern Tulip chair and that beautiful writing desk.Actually, I love everything about this space, even the mounted horns...

Have you even seen a more enviable outdoor patio...ever?!

Hmmmm: Angled Nesting Shelves

It was only a day or so ago that I was thinking to myself- after viewing yet another perfectly put-together, beautifully-designed apartment or loft or whatever- that sometimes the decor I see in magazines and in blogs is just too neat.  It's too straight and narrow.

And then I see these... West Elm's Angled Nesting Shelves

They come in a set of 3, and supposedly, you can mount them in really cool ways... but they are a bit weird-looking, don't you think?  And I don't mean weird in a good way.  Aren't shelves supposed to hold my junk up straight?  How are those things still in those crooked shelves?  Perhaps it's just me, but theses aren't going to be the solution to the documentation of soulless super neat, perfect lofts...

What do you all think of these shelves?  Are they perhaps a little bit silly or am I?

Designer Spotlight: 2Michaels

Not two dudes, but two lovely ladies who happen to be sisters; this interior design firm is headed by Jayne and Joan Michaels.  They hail from Cali, but their firm, soon to be 11 years old, is based in Manhattan.  I love this design firm for it's quirky, subdued use of color and for the sprinkling of mid-century modern pieces in the residences they've decorated.

from a Sutton place residence

from a Central Park West apartment

from a Tribeca loft

Now...this loft is much more subdued with its earthtones of tan, sand, wood, cinnamon and ochre.  But I really love the shapes and textures throughout the space, the openness of the loft.  The color palette makes a large, open and potentially uninviting space homey and comfortable looking.  Don't you think?

Wishlist: Driving Gloves

It's been a particularly frigid winter here in Atlanta and my cheap, knit gloves are no longer up to par.   I am thinking of investing in a pair or three of these gorgeous driving gloves, perhaps one each in leather, knit and lace?  I love these gloves because, while they're suited for especially cold weather, I'll be able to wear them as the temperature warms up, yet still calls for warm hands.

Lace Driving Gloves
Personally, I think there's something very...sensual and delicate about lace driving gloves.  Obviously, these aren't any good in the snow, but I'm craving a pair nonetheless!
